World Hypertension Day will take place on May 17, 2023. Less fun than that of chocolate (in october), certainly, it has the virtue of raising awareness about a pathology from which not less than 11 million people in France.
The risk factors are in particular overweight, tobacco, family hypertension before the age of 50 and age.
Both delegated nurses to Asalée Public Health (Liberal health action in a team) and attached to the ambulatory liberal health center of Valognes-Brix (Channel), they decided to take advantage of this day to offer the public screening sessions in partnership with the pharmacies that are part of the PSLA project.
Once a year
“The High Authority for Health wants to promote the early diagnosis because one out of two hypertensives does not know his condition. It recommends that from the age of 40 everyone should carry out a self-measurement per year”, underline the two professionals.
The game is worth the effort: untreated high blood pressure can cause strokeA heart attack myocardium, dementia or kidney damage.
When hypertension is detected, it can prevent this. Hence the interest of an annual self-measurement from a certain age (for hypertensives, it’s every three months, editor’s note). The right conditions are to do it three consecutive days three times in the morning at two-minute intervals, at rest and before breakfast and any medication, and three times in the evening before going to bed.
And to limit hypertension? Unsurprisingly, you have to have a physical activity “sustained and regular” and limit the salt intake. “The cube broths are our enemies! smile Aurélie Mesnage and Paolo Cardoso-Martins.
Which pharmacies?
The slots and participating pharmacies for screening are: in Valognes, Alauna pharmacy from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Hautemanière pharmacy from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; in Brix, Lefrançois pharmacy from 2 to 5 p.m.
A self-blood pressure monitor will be up for grabs on this occasion by a draw.
