“Leo, Martin, De Niro, let me take a selfie (let me take a selfie)”, could be read on signs, brandished by a delirious crowd. This Saturday, May 20, the 76th edition of the International Film Festival received three legends of the 7th art on its Cannes red carpet. Director Martin Scorsese – Palme d’or in 1976 for Taxi Driver with De Niro in the title role – has indeed climbed the steps of said competition, surrounded by his two favorite actors, Robert De Niro, therefore, and Leonardo DiCaprio. A historic image since it had been precisely 37 years since the American filmmaker had not returned to the Croisette, i.e. since 1986, the year in which he received the Director’s Prize for After Hours.

Three decades later, Martin Scorsese, 80, has lost none of his prestige. Acclaimed, the director, to whom we owe more recently The wolf of Wall Streetwith this time DiCaprio as headliner, came to present his new film, Killers of the Flower Moon, which is scheduled for release in France on October 18. Note that this is the first time that Leonardo DiCaprio, 48, and Robert De Niro, 79, have starred in a film by the filmmaker. Actor Jesse Plemons, who was accompanied tonight by his wife Kirsten Dunst, and actress Tantoo Cardinal are also in the cast.

Presented as a world premiere and out of competition, this new western depicts the massacre of the Amerindian people Osage, in 1920, who became rich after the discovery of oil. It is adapted from the best-selling book by American author David Grann. Special mention at the Cannes Film Festival for the very tailor-made rock soundtrack, which allowed Martin Scorsese to parade to the rhythm of his favorite groups: the Rolling Stones (he directed the documentary Shine a Light which retraces their series of legendary concerts at the Beacon Theater in New York), but also “the Boss” Bruce Springsteen and Bryan Ferry.

Nearly 2,500 guests were present in the hall of the Palais des Festival to applaud them. A few minutes before, we saw on the red carpet renowned personalities such as French actresses Isabelle Huppert and Carole Bouquet. Businessman François-Henri Pinault also succeeded, accompanied by his wife, actress Salma Hayek.
