Launched in 2001, this prize rewards male and female revelations in cinema each year. Audrey Tautou, Marion Cotillard, Léa Seydoux, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Florence Pugh, Niels Schneider, François Civil, Jeremy Irvine… are all among the lucky winners of this important prize. Through this event, Caroline Scheufele, co-president and director and artistic director of the house of Chopard – who notably designed the trophy in the form of a silver film strip ribbon covered with gold – affirms her support and love for cinema.

Natalie Portman, Fairy Godmother

This year, the Chopard family welcomed two new emerging talents: Naomi Ackie and Daryl McCormack, respectively seen in Whitney Houston: I wanna dance with Somebody by Kasi Lemmons and My dates with Leo by Sophie Hyde. On stage, Chinese actress, Tang Wei (Lust, Caution), a friend of the Chopard house who herself received the trophy in 2008, told how she had experienced this day and this dream evening when she was only a beginner. She then gave way to the star godmother of the trophy of this edition: Natalie Portman. In her sparkling blue Dior strapless dress, the actress and director wanted to congratulate and encourage the new winners. In 30 years of career, the Israeli-American has created a special place for herself in international cinema and this week she will walk the red carpet of the Palais des Festivals to present the film by Todd Haynes, May-Decemberselected in official competition.

Choice guests

Having become an unmissable event at the Cannes Film Festival, the Chopard Trophy dinner brought together select guests including Ruben Östlung, the president of this 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, his jurors Julia Ducournau, Paul Dano, Brie Larson, Denis Ménochet … but also the jury of the Un Certain regard selection, chaired by John C. Reilly, with Alice Winocour, Paula Beer, Davy Chou and Emilie Dequenne. In a joyful and warm atmosphere, the guests were able to savor the menu of two-starred chef Bruno Oger (Fleur de Zucchini, Breton lobster and lemon dessert accompanied by orange sorbet). At the end of the dinner, the singer Juliette Armanet was called to the microphone to the delight of the festival-goers. Thus, we could see Carla Bruni, Raphaël Personnaz, Clotilde Courau, Karidja Touré, Hafsia Herzi, Cédric Klapisch, Lola Doillon, or even Abdel Malik rejoice in this private show case.

A disco vibe

Seeing the room slightly timid, the singer (also seen in Stéphanie Di Giusto’s film, Rosaliepresented in the Un Certain Regard section this year), mixed with her audience to end up standing on a table, singing her hit The last day of disco, and in front of the amazed eyes of Natalie Portman and John C. Reilly. Completing her show at the piano, Juliette Armanet, filmed closely by JR, ended up greeting her audience under a rain of roses initiated by Rossy de Palma. Carried by the atmosphere of this unique concert, the more adventurous guests continued the evening on the Terrasse by Albane installed on the rooftop of the Marriott Hotel, when those, asked to get up early the next morning to attend a screening, are left with an air of disco in stereo.
